Why
Christians are Called to Environmental Stewardship.
(cont.)
ABSOLUTE TRUTH
We can make a difference because of Absolute
Truth.
The environment is a responsibility
shared by all Christians, and the
Church can bring real, substantive change to it. This
is because we operate under Absolute Truth, which is
universal and timeless.
A common belief today is Relative Truth, which states
that everyone has his or her own truth. Relative Truth is unstable at best. Relative
Truth says, “If it works, then it must be true.”
Godly truth, on the other hand, is absolute. It says
that if it’s true, then it works. Truth is based
on only one belief – and is true regardless of
who believes it. It is based on the belief that the
Bible is the Word of God. It testifies to the fact that
there is one God, the Creator of heaven and earth. We
believe God created man in His image and wants to have
eternal relationship with him. We believe He gave humanity
responsibility to care for the gift of His creation.
That gift includes all life: human life from conception
to the grave, wildlife, and plant life. That gift speaks
of water, soil, and air.
According to Absolute Truth, God is life. That means
God is “Pro-ALL-Life.” Therefore, all Christians
can and should agree that the environment is our responsibility.
It is our conviction that the worldwide Church should
embrace this biblical value and see themselves as “tenders
of the Garden.” Because Christians represent over
one-third of the world’s population, environmental
reformation can become a reality.
